At most US tourneys there are pictures taken of the winners with their trophies. It's done as events end, and no special attention is drawn to it. Often, the 2nd place finisher also get pictures, or at least the 2 of them together. We also try to announce whenever we have a winner, regardless of the event. Players will pause games to applaud, which the winners enjoy.

As others have mentioned, the nature of tournament scheduling in the US make an actual awards ceremony difficult. Las Vegas has done it in the past, along with food. I don't know if they still do, but it worked will and was fairly well attended -- probably because there were so many non-American players.
