Sherman graduated high school in 2006. The 3-part SAT with a new writing component was first offered March 2005. Before that (through January 2005) it was 2-part. Each part has a minimum 200 and a maximum 800 score.

His reported score according to a scouting website was 990 with 1060 on a retake. That seems improbably low if the score was for the 3-part test, because 1060 would place Sherman near the bottom, at about the 6th percentile (meaning that 94% of test takers scored higher). It seems more likely that the score is for the 2-part test, or for two parts (verbal and math) of the 3-part test. The average total score for math/verbal was 1028 in 2005, and 1021 in 2006, so Sherman's 990 would have been about about the 44th percentile, and 1060 about the 56th percentile.
