Against a deep anchor or single back checker, it is usually better to anchor on the 22pt than to cover the 10pt.

By contrast, when the opponent's back checkers are spread over more than one point, there are more indirect shots to avoid and it is usually better to cover the 10pt.
The fourth roll position on the left is a valid example. It is best to play P (Point, bar/23 13/10). By the same token, in the AdvBG #17 position, shown on the right, P (Point, 13/10) should be correct. Note that Blue's resulting checker decision is the same in both positions: P = 24 23 13(3) 10(2) beats @ = 22(2) 13(4) 10.
[AdvBG #17 can be reached by a shorter sequence such as 43S-53K-21-32P-21, but 53K is a blunder.]
