I spent a couple of minutes looking at this problem and still have no idea what's best. First let's identify the possibilities: 8/1*, 8/7 8/2, and 13/7 8/7 are the 3 real candidate plays.
Of the non hitting plays 8/7 8/2 leaves the minimum number of shots, eleven. 13/7 8/7 leaves fifteen shots five of which are 'super jokers' which both hit and cover your blot on the four point. This does prepare to clear my mid if I get away with it but seems a little rich to me. I decide not to clear my mid.
I'm certain that hitting with 8/1* will increase my gammons won a little bit and it may push you off the back points and allow me to clear my mid easier. (or you may dance for a bit and let me bring it all home). This too leaves the minimum number of shots and the majority of the time you won't get more than one whack at it, as you'll either come in on another point or I'll cover it after you fan. I really don't know which play is correct and if someone would like to enlighten me on something I missed I'd be happy to listen. I also figured that of all the plays 8/1* is most likely that "if it is wrong it's wrong by the least" so in theory, I picked at worse a Play B that isn't that bad.
Stick moves 8/1*

Match to 25, White leads 9 to 691 147 Board image courtesy of GO-Figure Oh I can just feel the bs coming on. I love it when I'm probably 80% to win the game with over 60% gammons one roll and then the next roll I'm 1 roll away of being gammoned myself or cubed out. Stick moves 6/2(2) 11/3
