A cousin, perhaps, but not a brother...

The catepillar-like action of 4/1* 2/1 is reminiscent of the Bagai. It volunteers a shot in order to switch to a lower point. The reason I don’t think this qualifies for Bagai status, however, is because the motivation is wrong. The Bagai maneuver—if you are not hit—is generally made to simplify the future bear-in and bear-off. In this position, the hit is more about winning gammons. So, I’ll call this a cousin.

Over the board, I looked long and hard at this cousin as well as two other alternatives. What would you do?
