Nice catch.

I presume the intent was to say, "If an illegal move is noticed before the opponent has either doubled or rolled his dice it must be corrected."

Even this might require some clarification. In an unclocked match, when precisely does the act of doubling occur? Is that when the cube is first touched? Or does it occur when the word, "Double," is uttered? At some other time? Most will say that the first touch of the cube is the time when an illegal gets locked in.

In a clocked match, I have long felt that touching the cube should not be construed as doubling. Unlike the situation in an unclocked match, the opponent can never jump the gun and reveal his take/pass decision when a clock is present. At least, he shouldn't.

That notwithstanding, most would probably say that touching the cube in a clocked match is the instant when an illegal move becomes permanent.
