If I "forget" the score too and take the cube, and then win the match without winning a gammon, is the match over if a spectator or the other player realizes the error.

1. What is the current rule?

2. What should the rule be?

1. I don't know what the current rule is since I don't play in tournaments. But FIBS allows cubes in this situation and your only options are to take or pass - you can't say to the player "you know, the cube is dead here." and let her withdraw the cube offer.

2. My take is that once the cube is dead, it's dead and it shouldn't be a legal move to offer it.

That said, in the case where the cube was turned to 4 and the game played out as if it were DMP, it wouldn't be right to score it as two points since both players were making their checker plays assuming DMP.

IOW, it should be treated the same as any other illegal move.
