3 checkers on opp's ace is the kiss of death, but i hate running into a triple shot, and what then do we do with the 4? Now doesn't seem to be the time to run a checker off the ace.

I also don't like playing the spares on our prime behind opp's blot to make our 2 pt.

Maybe hitting loose, 13/3* is the right idea? Although it gives up our mid, it takes away half of their roll so they are less likely to improve their side of the board. And it keeps our 4-prime. Maybe we can contain their back checker.
