Why make a .02 error? If you're the better player why let the opp be able to anchor with almost half his rolls and simplify the game? If you're the worse player isn't it best to hit and hope to be missed and get an advantage? Also a stronger player isn't going to badly misplay a dud roll when you don't hit him.
