if you do make the 4 point the alternatives to 14(2) are 9(2) which isolates the back men, and 2 4 that might set off an attack, but really an attack is not your main game plan with your race lead and our better board. 14(2) must be better than either.
8/4 6/2 is beyond ugly, but I like the idea of attacking and 13/9(2) prepares for that, bringing 13 checkers in the zone.
Getting our straggler out of his hair then bringing his men beyond our anchor (whether with 8/4(2) 18/14(2), 18/10(2) or 18/14(2) 13/9(2)) is fraught with danger. Closing the back man out would greatly simplify things, and win gammons too.
If the backman escapes, the White checkers on the 18 point are indeed isolated, but the timing swings Stick's way since he would hold five of our men with only two of his.
