Blue to play 31

Mike Senkiewicz showed this position to me ages ago. We both favored the outer priming play "9" (making the 9pt, 12/9 10/9, also nactated "p"), which, as I recall, the author believed to be much weaker than "5" (making the 5pt, 8/5 6/5, also nactated "P"). The opposite seems true to me -- my opinion hasn't changed.

Hitting moves also seem better than making the 5pt -- i.e., the consecutive five-prime, which can be too easily hurdled, and with five blots hanging in the balance. The two best hitting moves (by virtue of cleaning up two of those blots) must be R (Run, 23/20* 14/13) and S (Split-and-down, 23/20* 13/12). The former of those seems better than the latter in order to keep Blue's subsequent 4s diversified.

It's a great position, though there's no way it could never arise in a real game. (Just kidding.)
