Gammons are indeed important to think about at 4a but I didn't mention them because I believe that Blue's gammon wins are so low that they don't affect the cube decision. Even in the squeeze scenario that you mention, gammons are unlikely; White will probably still have a good board and only one checker closed out, which means few gammons.
