Opinions About Giving Odds

A fair way to make a game between two unequal players is for the stronger player to give odds to the weaker player on the end result of a certain number of games. Determining what is fair is not so easy, but trial and error will usually suffice. A strong world class level player may be able to give 2-1 odds on a 5-game set to a weak intermediate, but will have to lower the odds or change to a longer set against a stronger one.
In general, I don't think the stronger player should ever give odds to make the game perfectly fair. Handicaps do not work that way in golf, bowling, and most sports. The stronger player should get a least a slight advantage in respect of his superior skill. The weaker player should be happy to be getting odds that make playing the stronger player fun and relatively inexpensive in the long run.
