Easiest way to cheat at backgammon

Ken,
1. They asked us to bring clocks but we could not use them if the opponent did not want to. Two of the people that I played were more than slow. Sitting in a BG room and waiting for several minutes a move is not fun. This topic has been well discussed here.
Agreed completely and yet some American directors refuse to go along with the rest of the world and make Championship level Clocks Mandatory or Preferred. I was personally told of an 11 pt match that lasted about 3:45 and another that went 3:15. Never mind that there's usually plenty of time to complete the event in Vegas, who the hell wants to play an 11 pt match lasting about 3.5 hours?
Are these few directors afraid to chase away a couple of players? For every 3 players who insist that they'll not play a clocked event, I think at least 2 of them will play anyhow and get used to clocks. I know that there are a few players who refuse to play an unclocked event.
Here's the clock policy from the main tourney in the BG world's leading nation, Denmark.
Championship: Clock Preference Advanced: Clock Preference Intermediate: Clock Option Final rounds all flights: Clock Obligation
My my.. in Denmark the 2nd division (Advanced) is also clock pref, and final rounds of all flights are clock mandatory.
Lets look at another of the world's leading BG nation, Japan. In the Japan Open, Champ. and Inter. (2nd div) are clock mandatory.
Such a shame that a couple stubborn American directors refuse to follow much of the rest of the world and at least make Champ level events clocks preferred.
