A Vegas ruling situation

I recorded matches for several years and always tried to be very considerate in giving match files to my opponents and also in getting my opponents' permission before I supplied any matches to third parties.
I've tried to do the same with matches I occasionally transcribe live and with matches such as the Dual-Duel tournament in San Antonio.
I personally think anyone should have the right to record their matches as long as they don't abuse the privilege. As stated above, they should forward the match files (or certainly the video files if they don't get around to transcribing them) to their opponents and they should get permission before giving them to others. Anyone abusing these courtesies should not be allowed to record.
I was having a discussion with someone in Las Vegas about the Gary/Ray situation. Maybe it was in my discussion with Justin and Julius about transcribing as Julius prepared to transcribe the final.
Whomever it was, the suggestion was made that maybe, beyond having a record of the match, there are other reasons Gary (or anyone else) videorecords their matches. First, it is nice to have a videorecord if there are any disputes during the match. I've seen several times, at various tournaments, players reviewing the video, during a match, to verify a roll or a play. Secondly, perhaps the mere presence of a camera may keep a player from attempting any illegal moves or other shady actions.
Interesting considerations.
