In Response To: An idea to reduce variability of playing time in matches (Tom Keith)

This combines elements of speed gammon with regular backgammon and would be a fun side event. It is far too much of a departure from a true backgammon contest to be a main event.

The best solution is playing Swiss with clocks. Properly run, you never have to wait for your next round. Each round is scheduled and if you finish early you can go take a nap, a dip, a snack...whatever. Properly scheduled, and with clocks, it is virtually impossible for someone not to finish a match in time for the next round.

This is a major reason why I strongly prefer Swiss or modified swiss tournaments.
