Nack, I'm in a bit of a rush right now and have just skimmed your solution so I might have missed something, but it seems that you haven't considered the possibility that one or the other side has hit a checker somewhere along the way. I looked into a number of hitting possibilities and am pretty sure that they don't help, but the complications of hitting were the main reason I felt too lazy to construct an actual proof of uniqueness.
