From the perspective of marketing the 'backgammon industry', we need to deal with illegal moves. Widespread public interest will be very difficult to achieve if the public has little confidence in the outcome of tournements. I suspect it is best to deal with this issue before public interest reaches a level where illegal moves are publicized in the media. Such publicity in the future could ensure that the game of backgammon never reaches the level of public interest such as that found in the game of poker.
