Why we should publicize our illegal moves

This publicity is no different than what gets published on the front page of the sports section the day after a field goal kicker in American football misses a game-winning kick.
There is a difference. Illegal plays in backgammon are not supposed to be part of the game. If there were an easy way to avoid illegal plays in backgammon, that's what we would do. You wouldn't do the same with field goals in football.
Whichever side you favor, you cannot have an intelligent discussion unless you keep track of the real-world consequences of the illegal moves that do occur.
The debate about the rules centers on a very narrow point: When an illegal play occurs, and the other player sees it, what is the best way to resolve the situation? Everyone -- no matter which side of the debate you are on -- agrees that illegal plays are not good. (It is cheating to intentionally make an illegal play.)
I would like to see LM taken a step further. I believe official monitors and unofficial spectators (in a limited capicity that can be worked out later) should be allowed to point out any irregularity they see.
Ahh, this must be the reason for your post!
I disagree that spectators should be allowed to point out irregularities in play. Spectators should not to do or say anything that would influence the game.
