I explained my approach to these sorts of problems in my response to Jeremy Bagai's recent problem. Break a high point if you expect to have to play in your board again, and break a low point if you expect that you don't. That would shade the decision towards 24/20 6/5 in the first position and 24/18 2/1 in the second. Let me just go with that because I don't have any deeper understanding of the decision than that.
