I have a better rule of thumb: if you are on the fence, you are probably better off playing on.

Two reasons: most players are much too conservative in TG decisions; second, if the game turns a bit and you then double, you often get the strangest cube actions from your opp.

In your posted position, the score is key, changing the gammon value a lot and also reducing your opponent's take point, as Stick mentioned. You should calculate the GV given the score and position of the cube.
