Bob's problem of reaching the opening 31P position in the fewest number of rolls that is greater than one, turns out to be a great proof problem, IMO.
I haven't worked on it. Is the solution unique?
BTW, I was unable to view either of the links in your post. Perhaps the problem is on my end or it is only temporary.
The links are definitely alive for me at the moment.
A few (three or four?) years ago, I posted a lot of puzzles that to solve required knowing nothing more than knowing the rules of backgammon. I'm not sure how to find those posts now, but if you or I do run across them, we could compare notes and see which would be best to share and I could double-check them for cooks.
Ah, yes, I vaguely remember some of those. You can dig most of them up as follows.
1. Go to the search page.
2. Click on the "Posted between..." radio button and change the end date to sometime in 2012.
3. Select the "All" option in the drop-down menu for "Messages containing [Any/All] of the following keywords," and type "nack puzzle" in the search box.
I'll take a look at some of these later, and maybe you can do the same.
