I've read some of Kahnemann's work and it is definitely interesting and instructive. However, in my opinion, most of the concepts apply only in an indirect way to playing a "mind sport" like backgammon. I would personally recommend Krogius's Psychology in Chess over Kahnemann to someone looking for insights that are more directly applicable to the practical player.
