In Response To: Blue's 22 play before the ho-hum 61 (Timothy Chow)

As Tim said, not all board-breaking plays in holding games are crazy. I have regularly broke points in the inner board when playing against a holding game with a large lead in the race. A few times this temporary "thrashing" of my board seemed to confuse my opponent and induced him to run off his anchor (usually the 20 point) prematurely.

I haven't read Kit Woolsey's article before. I found it very helpful because it points out the necessary conditions for either side in a holding game to make this type of play.
