Now that I've had a chance to look at the other responses I'm a bit perplexed that the overwhelming majority of Dillies are opting for S when the book play is P.

I understand that the two plays are so close that it's a "pick-em" call, but I'd expect that most of us know that P is the book move and yet a bunch of players better than me are going with S. I figure there must be some practical reason.

Is it a hangover from the pre-bot era where P was considered laughably incorrect? Is it that you have to play precisely to extract the extra gammons out of P? Something else?
