Thank you for sharing your insight, Tim. You are absolutely right in everything you wrote. I do know quite a few weaknesses in my game and it's just a matter of time and hard work to bring those down to a tolerable level. However, understanding the opening is key to understanding many post-opening positions. Thus, I believe that studying openings develops proper thinking techniques for many middle game positions.

I might not have the most efficient way of studying the game; I do prefer to take one aspect at a time and study it rigorously (relative to my current level). This might slow down my immediate progress, but I'm not looking for cheap and fast solutions. Nobody knows me anyway, so I'm not concerned with making a name for myself in the backgammon scene. I will get to at least 4 PR level eventually; that I have a talent for this I know for sure. (David Presser -- my USBGF mentor -- has had a huge impact on my understanding of the game and serves as a huge inspiration for me. My PR skyrocketed downwards ever since he started working with me.) I'll reevaluate my options and priorities once that happens. My progress did take quite a big hit due to a recent wedding, but I'm still committed to the game. Many more BGO projects are to come.
