(Original, with only one 6/4)The first (left-hand) position is John's instructive variant. [The second (right-hand) position is his original.] The difference in White's position (though only 2 pips) is huge. Now the blitzing play of P (Point, 9/1*(2)) packs decidedly less punch. What I find most interesting is that in response (to P) White has the much more affordable option (due to her stronger and blotless board) of entering and playing her diversified 6 or 1 by slotting her 7pt, so that her next 6 or 1 (after getting hit again) will cover her 7pt.
9/5(2) is still clear for two of the 4s. The main choice seems to be between C (Cross, 20/16(2) 9/5(2) and A (Attack, 9/5(2) 6/2(2). I'll treat this much as I would 64S-44 (position #38 in the Nactation tutorial), where R (Run, 24/16*(2)) is best because IF White ends up making her 18pt anchor, which she likely will, Blue has preemptively seized an even more advanced anchor in the "showdown." In other words, I'm going with C.
I have to admit, though, a lot rides on that. If white fails to roll one of her 14 to 17 anchoring numbers (or eventually anchor after an exchange of hits), Blue will preferred to have played A, O.(Outer 1:3, 13/9 9/5(3)), J (Jump, 9/5(2) 8/4(2), or even P.
C (Cross, 24/16(2) 9/5(2))
In terms of the value of Blue's blitzing P play, there is an enormous difference between White owning her 4pt (powerful) and having it slotted (vulnerable). In that light, I suggest the simple compromise variant diagrammed below. What do you play now—anyone?Nack
