I would agree that its not so common for this to happen, however, it does. I always particularly enjoy winning a match where I played better than my opponent, yet my luck numbers are worse than his.

As the now Flapped BK says, this more typically happens when the errors are more impactful, i.e. on larger cubes, where the volatility is in your favor. Also, when winning gammons and singles on 2's and 4's, sometimes a gammon win is an expected result, despite the rolls not being overly 'lucky'.
