Avoid gammonish positions at 2a3a?

I would run and be surprised if that wasn't the correct play ATS, as an intermediate player.

If the score were reversed and I was trailing 2a3a, I would probably still run as it could end the game and equalise the match immediately.

Making the 2-point seems to be too committal and my first thought was an act of wishful desperation, leaving a disjointed and scattered position if white enters.
