White has about 60 pips of timing, which is a bit shy of what she needs. If blue hits, he gives her another 10 pips which is not quite what blue wants to do.

OTOH, hitting spreads the checkers around and looks more flexible than stacking up the nine point with 14/9 13/9. And it probably wins a few more gammons.
