Although I tend to avoid backgames when I can, I do like 1&3 backgames with timing. If it is my opps who has the backgame going and I have to defend I am more careful to hit. I consider the timing here marginal at best, so I see hitting as giving my opp better chances to improve it. Blue hasn't completed a prime so white can escape easier if hit (lower risk to crunch IMHO). I'd probably opt for the 14-9, 13-9. I'd be curious to see the position where blue turned the cube.
