The question of format has been raised. Its an interesting one isnt it. Is the goal really to crown the best player? Or is the goal to have a player that wins through to a final, and through luck and adversity wins out? Certainly, if we want the best player to win it, then it will come down to the very best players playing in a playoff - Mochy, Matt, Michi, Falafel, Akiko etc. Personally, I am not sure thats what we want. I think in order to attract a large crowd, then you need to have the element of 'anyone can win it'.
So, as to format: A swiss with 4 losses would result in the strongest players making it to the end.
How about a league style leading to a playoff - 16 x 10 player brackets - everyone plays everyone else, single best record advances to round of 16, which is straight knockout. Yes, its a whole lot of play, and there may not be enough time for it, or it might not be interesting enough to the spectators, but it also could be done as a mini-swiss - once you have 3 losses (or 2, whatever makes it work in a schedule) you are out, and drop into a last chance.
There's a lot of options for that, and changing the format may be interesting.
Its worth discussion, IMO. Perhaps Steen Gronbech would like to enter into discussion here on this forum regarding his thoughts? Getting the community's pulse I think is important.
