gnubg doesn't mind breaking the midpoint so much according to its own rollout. The trouble with gnubg is that it thought the rolled out play 24/23 13/11 was a blunder at 2-ply and then rolls it out to be a strong contender. Perhaps worse is that gnubg evaluates all the plays initially as being -0.4 equity or less and then rolls them out to be better than -0.2 equity in some cases.

I don't particularly trust XG evaluations/trials here, however I think gnubg may be even less trustworthy.
