Chouette rule prevalence: no consulting until the cube is turned

I play in a friendly, dollar a point chouette that is full consulting because it's social and fun. However, I believe non consulting or only if your cube is turned is the better way to go. Not only does it speed the pace up, but it allows each player to play their own game.
