What's the exercise here? I am not sure. I play 24/15, it can't be that simple. Backgammon is a game of two dice. I play the six and look to play the three. I play the three and look to play the six. The genie produces 24/18 13/9 as the only alternative sensible play. The difference between these two plays is one is passive the other aggressive. How do you feel today you fancy a bit of action or would like to take it easy. There are those players who believe that they can secure an advantage against a weaker opponent by playing a move less than the best. They are obviously good psychologists and apparently have a knowledge of what's in the pot. In my opinion in match play the best play is the only play. Fortunately that is not the case here. At this stage of the match both plays are fine. What's the exercise here? I am still not sure. Maybe it's a bad example of some other feature of backgammon.
