There are a couple other issues though which I think makes it close.

Bearing off the checker now and delaying the greater number of shots by keeping 3 on the 5 point means that an eventual hit in that variation likely comes with more checkers already off compared to 5/2 5/4.

Keeping the spare on the 5 point means the 4 prime lasts longer. If opponent does not get a 5 or 6 in next couple rolls this may hurt his forward position.
