Both players would like to hold their partial primes while moving spares and possibly making more points in their prime. Blue is well positioned to do this. He has a deficit in the race, a better anchor and more points in front of the anchor. Blue can hold the sixteen point or the midpoint. Holding the midpoint effectively frees six pips of forward movement improving Blue's timing and watches the nine point which is out of range of the sixteen anchor. In exchange, holding the midpoint leaves a shot. Being hit actually improves blue's timing unless the spare has trouble escaping white's prime. Furthermore, White's midpoint is stripped. The cost of leaving the shot looks low. Holding the midpoint with 16-13 looks best.
