In Response To: bridge bidding (OT) (Keene)

since, by definition, responder has no 4 card major, 2S is a forward going, warning against a no trump contract (he still could be 56, we'll hear what he has to say next round). since 2S is lower than 3D, he could still have a hand similar to a 3D rebid - 2S allows responder to call 2N, 3C, 3D without going past 3D. With "stuff" in both majors, opener would likely gone directly toward a NT game with 2N or 3N.

In modern bidding, 2D openings are usually a weak 2D, Flannery, Multi, or some other specialized bid unrelated to a strongish diamond hand.
