I'll offer some feedback, but I'm not certain that it addresses your question directly.
My suggestion is to export in text file formant. Text files are universal in that they work with most bots, and are easy to use with an actual board in front of you. They are easy to archive, in that they require less digital memory to store them. In the long run, say over the next 20 years or more, text files will be useful, but xg files will become obsolete, due to their limited functionality (works only with xg), as new bots arrive. I would encourage you to make the text files available for future archiving.
Xavier has done a great job with xg, and has performed a huge service for the backgammon community. When he tires/retires developing xg further, the door will be open for the next generation of bots, and it's highly possible that xg files will not be included in the functionality of xg's successer. So I lean in favour of preserving these matches in text file format.
