Yes, I'm sure that this is the case. If people are getting #8 wrong then they're also going to be getting #12 wrong. I don't know if you still have the data but I'd expect a pretty strong correlation between #8 and #12.

The other thing is that there are people who won't recognize that it's double/pass after a dance. Surely you can think of some people who wouldn't double after a dance even if they got that decision over the board. Now add to that the people who would recognize it as D/P if the possibility actually materialized, but who don't think that far ahead. They're mentally thinking that they might lose even if they're not hit immediately.
