Bear in position vs. 3 anchor

I might be missing the point of this exercise. 6/1 4/2 seems obvious to me. The 4/2 is important because checkers on the 2 pt help to reduce blotting numbers later. Or perhaps, I have committed a blunder during the bear-in?
