You make a very valid point Tim. I don't know what the relative percentages are, so chess and bg may have different profiles in that regard. When I think of the backgammon Giants List (which, with due respct to those who are on it) isn't in my opinion fit for purpose (whatever that is lol, and I hope this new proposed titles system for bg sinks that list for good), I imagine that the frequency with which a tournament attendee may encounter a Giant is probably in the right ballpark, and so therefore the number of 'big title' bg players (SGM,GM, IM) may be in roughly that area.
