I agree there is a widely held consensus about xg as you say. Just as there was a widely held (damn near universal?) consensus 40 years ago that making the 2-point with an opening 64 marked you as a rank beginner and a widely held consensus in 1900 that science had gone as far as it could and there were just no more discoveries to be made. Both of those (and obviously there are thousands more we could come up with) were Truths acknowledged by the experts of their day. XG is an outstanding tool to improve one's game. I just think using it to determine ranking is a misuse of it. To be sure it's no less absurd than the current system of ranking Giants but that doesn't mean it makes sense. Obviously I'm in a minority on this and I don't really give a damn either way. If it makes certain people happy to be given certain titles more power to them.
