This is a good suggestion. It's a little unusual so it might be tough to convince people to adopt it, but if they did, it would address at least half of my concern.

What is still true is that people like me who are very interested in the game but have a limited budget for traveling to tournaments and paying the entry fee will, in my opinion, probably not be incentivized by such titles if they still require you to play in a whole lot of tournaments. Again, I accept that it's possible that this is not the type of person you want to attract, but they do exist.
