How to resolve MET and MWC problems.
As a young man I went fishing with a club. All the older members were catching fish. I approach some and asked what I was doing wrong. To cut a short story short I received no help whatsoever. I guess it's a similar position in BG. It's a highly technical mathematical problem not easily resolved and hard learnt. Why would more experienced players pass on their hard acquired shortcuts. I guess the best shortcut is memory.
I have run up a flag for AdamStocks post in Roll Vs Roll: Match Play. A great explanation on a very simple position. I wish I was as erudite, nice one Adam. Some time back I decided I had to understand these problems. Fortunately I acquired a book that gave me chapter and verse on the lot. I understood how MET tables are arrived at . I understood MWC windows of opportunity Neils numbers ,and all that it entails. Happily I am very good at GWC. I do wonder that arriving at GWC as a percent seldom gets mentioned. One must assume that it is not a problem for most !! Common sense had to prevail, I realise that at my level of BG in that I do not play often enough to warrant or even expect to master the subject over the board the answer was, use common sense. Mostly the positions shown on recent posts needed nothing more than common sense, an understanding of roll odds and GWC and a keen awareness of match score. This approach will give you more time to perfect your positional play and cube strategy.
Not very erudite all that, there was a time.
