One mistake I made over and over again until gnu and XG beat it our of me is reflexively entering with the higher number. But here I think it makes sense:

Only eight checkers in the zone.

Their five and eight points are stripped.

No good way to play the four if we enter on the ace.

I hate sitting on the ace point waiting patiently to lose.

The fourth may or may not be a good reason, but I'll enter with the four and play 11/10 for the ace. Slotting the five is worth a look, but with us ahead in the race, fewer men back, and outboarded seems too bold for the circumstances.
