I had both with me.
1) Prairie Classic was "clocks by agreement" so I didn't push it. I played 2 or 3 matches in that event with a baffle box.
2) Open was "clocks at the request of either player". When those rules are in force (and I didn't forget my clock) I always use a clock without exception. That 'rule' was followed. I don't remember how many matches were played on the baffle box (less than half, I'm sure) and I may not have even asked some of my opponents.
At most ABT tournaments I bring extra clocks and make them available to the staff. They then have them available at the front table for players to use. Unfortunately they don't always return, even though my name is clearly stickered on the clocks I provide. (One disappeared in Chicago Open this year.) I don't consider the TD to be responsible for my clocks. I do expect the players to be 100% honest. "How's that workin' for yuh, Chuck?" Also one of my clocks (which, it turns out, wasn't originally mine but was provided by a director when another clock disappeared) now has malfunctioning plungers so it's permanently out-of-service. As a result of all this I decided to only bring one clock (for myself) this past weekend.
I hope the trend towards clocked matches isn't waning. I also hope that the use (and acceptance) of baffle boxes will continue to grow. I guess those of us who are in favor (of one or both) need to keep up the campaign.
