In both instances OtB I would have made the bar point. Having the compact 5 prime is by far in general the overriding factor. If we make the 8pt the opponent will be able to see daylight no matter which point he enters on. If we make the bar point instead he will need to enter with a deuce to breathe in any air. On top of that it's typically easier to extend the compact five prime.

Since they're posted one next to the other it's easy to see how the duplication/diversification of fives and sixes will play a roll and that perhaps, again, since you posted them, in the first one making the 8pt would be better.
