Check Backgammon (P. Magriel) pg. 269 : "The doubling cube holds the key to being a winner or a loser. Good checker play will never compensate for serious errors of judgment in doubling." OK, I admit, I played in the 70's, but now is now. The answer is not exactly what you are looking for, but close. Of course cube and checkers play are interrelated and both important. It is refreshing to be free to reexamine old concepts, and now knowing my weaknesses, I'll be working on the " low-hanging fruit". TY Timothy, "I could see clear now".
