In addition to the "less than stellar" settings, I had somehow rolled out the runner 2.5k and the chinner 5k. When I equalled the tries, the chinner came ahead again. Stick's 1.7% and mine 1.2% with 100% probability show the chinner bar/20 13/7 to be the winner. So XG 3 ply evaluation is right and endures 5k trials rollout!
